CUNYfirst General Ledger is LIVE!

University Deputy Controller Christina Seglem (pictured below with Thomas Zhou from the Controller's Office) initiated the CUNYfirst General Ledger on our target date, July 1, 2008 by entering and posting the first journal entry. Thomas Zhou loaded the first spreadsheet to launch the CUNYfirst General Ledger.

This CUNYfirst General Ledger is the foundation of the future financial management system for all of our institutions.  It will be followed by modules that support electronic procurement, accounts payable, budgeting and a host of fiscal-related services.  These will enable our business officers and other campus and university professionals who manage and direct our financial resources, to operate with the efficiencies and effectiveness that a 21st century Enterprise Resource Planning like CUNYfirst affords.

A schedule of FY 2009 FIS/FAS and CUNYfirst General Ledger closing is available by clicking here.

CUNYfirst is Coming!

CUNYfirst_hat

CUNYfirst stands for Fully Integrated Resources and Services Tool and for CUNY it means a massive upgrade in how we’ll do things in the future.

New CUNYfirst processes in Student Administration, Human Resources and Finance will change how we do everything from registering for classes to paying our bills.  CUNYfirst applications will replace aging legacy systems like SIMS and CUPS and help us streamline and standardize many of the things we do at our colleges.  CUNYfirst will be implemented in phases.  Base processes for business, HR and academic structure will be created first, with enhancements and new modules being added in the coming years.

The CUNYfirst Project is planned to last until early 2012 and is intended to establish CUNY processes well into the future.

CUNYfirst is…

    • Integration
    •  Industry Best Practices
    •  Standardization without loss of identity
    •  Self-Service
    •  Accurate and timely information to better serve students, faculty and staff
    •  Replacement of aging computer systems

Integration – For the first time, having a system that manages our students education and records connects to the systems that run our businesses and the systems that keep personnel records of our faculty and staff.

Industry Best Practices – Put into place systems and procedures that comply with CUNY’s common goal of providing the best customer service to our students, faculty, staff and community.

Standardization without loss of identity – Put into place common processes that can be accepted across the university while allow campuses to continue their unique missions.

Self-service – Make available modern systems and processes that allow the user more control and flexibility.

Accurate and timely information – Have information when we need it so we can perform our work on our timetable.

Replacement of aging computer systems – Our main systems for human resources and student administration are a generation old and have reached their capacity.  We need the most modern educational and business systems to meet the high standards of CUNY, its students, faculty and staff, and all our customers.
